Only a little longer!

I was sitting around this evening chatting with Elly about the dismal sans-everyone Oilers season ahead of us and watching bad reruns on tv when all of a sudden, mid Sox/Indians game, this caught my attention:

Yep. It's that horribly obnoxious Absolute Pear commercial that ran a minimum of three times every commercial break near the end of last season. I literally would get this thirty second clip of a song (should you be interested, you can apparently listen to the full song, "Charmer" at Rhapsody, here) stuck in my head, it was on tv so many times per night.

So why am I posting the stupid thing? Because you guys, I haven't seen it since hockey's been gone. All summer. And now it's back. It's back! Hockey is coming back! Happy September everyone - the boys will be back soon!

Okay, I'm with you...I wasn't sure where you were going with that one ;) (Ugh, that commercial used to creep me out - anyone know why I clicked play??)

Of course, you know that the return of hockey season also means the return of this guy, too, right?

I SO knew what was going to happen when I clicked on your link, CC, but I did anyway, and proceeded to be annoyed/creeped out. Damnit, why did I have to do that? When you figure out your answer about the snake ad, let me know. It probably applies.

I watched the Heritage Classic between Edmonton and Montreal again yesterday.

Having hockey on DVD has alloweed me to save my sanity several times. :o)

CC - It's the song, I swear. It just sucks you in even though you KNOW you hate it and it's going to be creepy. Speaking of creepy, how glad am I that Heineken's put out a new set of overplayed commercials just in time for hockey too? Oh right, not very. (And I have no idea why I just clicked your link either...I knew it was going to be something I'd rather forget, but nope, common sense wasn't working :P)

Kirsten - We all KNOW what's coming, and yet we do it anyway. No one said we were the smartest bunch.

Teebz - I have a few games on my computer, but most of them make me sad now (Oilers/Sharks where Smytty scores that 2 minute hat trick? Game 5 of the 05/06 playoffs? Yeah.) so they're not a lot of help :P

CC, I must confess....I thought that your link would lead me to Crosby. That Enzyte thing is a huge disappointment in comparison. :)

Kirsten/Steph: See? You can't turn away. It's just tremendously, wonderfully awful.

Teebz: I have to get that game on DVD...how are the extras? Anything good?

Elly: I would never link to anything about Crosby. Ever. Not on my blog, especially... ;)

CC, not even over here, out from under the scrutiny of all your fellow Caps bloggers? :P (Or at least the ones that don't read our blog too...okay maybe my logic isn't quite as sturdy as I'd hoped.)

And I really can't. Even now temptation is urging me to click again, as if it will have changed or something.

Never. :P

If you want it, Capschick, I can burn a copy for you. Just say the words, and it can be yours.

It's the DVD that CBC produced, so it's like watching the game from start to finish on Hockey Night In Canada without the commercials.

The extras include a behind-the-scenes "Making Of", interviews with former Oilers, photos from the day, and commentary from Kevin Lowe and Craig Simpson.

Disc One is the Old-Timers Game. Disc Two is the actual Heritage Classic Game.

This offseason is killing me more than last, I have no idea why it's taking so long!

Random note: my RA has seen the Rocket. He's officially cool, even if he's from Kansas.

Teebz: I am all for taking you up on that offer, should I qualify too :P I saw the dvd when I was in Canada last, but I was buying a bunch of other crap (read: plaques and Maple Leafs fuzzy dice) and didn't have the spare cash.

Kirsten: I KNOW. For some reason last summer just didn't seem this miserable. This time around it feels like we haven't had hockey in eons. (And excellent about your RA! Make friends, maybe you'll get connections :P)

It's insane. I seriously can't remember a summer that has sucked that much. Could be that I was on the IR most of the summer and couldn't do anything. Being forced to lie around makes time drag by for me.

CapsChick said...

Teebz: Absolutely!! That would be awesome, thanks...can you e-mail me? It's on my blogger profile.

I'm so proud of myself I didn't click on the link! That commercial makes me feel so sorry for the snake. And it pisses me off doubly since I really enjoyed the music on the series of ads they had in circulation before the stupid snake. There was much excitement at IPB Manor last night when that stupid "Daddy, what are you thinking about?" Butterflies commercial. That was the one that got us all annoyed that it was played 3,000 a night. Hockey well and truly can't be that far off!

CC: Sid wants you to love him; how many times do I have to say that until you believe me? :)

Teebz said...

Steph, contact me at cdnuniguy@gmail.com. I can make multiple copies.

Do you guys want both the old timers and the game, or just the game?

Steph said...

Kristin: That sounds terrible - summers are bad enough as it is (especially when your baseball team is being a jerk), let alone when you're literally forced to sit around and do nothing but watch them be jerks? Boo.

Pookie: I am proud of your self-restraint. I certainly couldn't do it. I love that we're gauging hockey coming back based off of commercials though!

Teebz: E-mail sent!

I know. I couldn't even go to the Dome to cheer them on for part of them time. Fortunately my wrist is healed, and it's business as usual. ( I suspect I wasn't allowed to go because I have a habit of pounding on the seats...not good for newly reconstructed joints.) Stupid Twins. It's almost over! I think the first preseason game for us is th 18th or something. Then we play the Wings twice...

Elly said...

CC: Never post anything about Crosby? I should ask you to be NPI's special Crosby correspondent from the Washington side for all the hard-earned knowledge you have about him. ;)

And I clicked on the link, and thank you, I wasn't let down....although I was silly and expected a highlights reel instead of the Finger Incident.

Teebz said...

Anyone else want a DVD or two while I'm burning them?

Kirsten said...

*raises hand* Can I get in on this DVD thing? I'll send you something cool back if you'd like...

CapsChick said...

Pookie / Elly: Who is this Crosby you speak of? I don't know anyone by that name. Crosby, Crosby...hmmm... Nope. Not ringing a bell. Do you mean Ovechkin, the best player in the NHL, the non-robot Russian superstar?

Oh, wait, or maybe you were thinking of Alexander Semin, the second best player in the NHL... :D

Elly said...

CC: Whoa whoa whoa here, hold the phone: they make Russian hockey robots? Cool! That beats out Disney's animated Ducks cartoon from back in the day.
