It had to happen
I've got a few hockey notes, but there is something else going on tonight that needs to be addressed.
First, hockey.
-Penguins
I finally, finally, got Charter and Center Ice to meld and create beautiful hockey on my television....it only took me three weeks and about four hours on the phone. Thanks for the phone bill, guys.
However, the Pens weren't even on extended cable tonight but on OLNUSUS, and so through fuzzy and static-ridden television, I tuned in, finally, to a Pens game on tv.
Too bad it was boring.
Seriously, what happened with the Rangers? They played well, it was a physical game, but it looked like they were skating through quicksand at some points. The goal and the last 5 minutes or so were the only part worth watching. Even the Pens fans sort of died out booing Jagr.
On a related note: people, leave Fleury alone. Yes, he's got some technical issues, and he knows it. He's working on it. Stop calling for questions on a new goaltender (really, at less than 10 games in?Have some patience). He, like the rest of the human race, is not perfect, don't expect him to be. He was solid when I saw him in Toronto, and he was good last night, and until he starts really throwing off his game, I'll say the same thing: let him be.
Another Penguin note: NHL.com has a great little story to continue with their month of cancer awareness with the savior of the Penguins, Mario Lemieux. Read it.

What is tonight? No, not an exciting game with the Flyers and the Panthers, but the start of the World Series. Now, being an A's fan, it is hard to live in the outskirts of Sox nation (especially since Yankee's fans are heartily sprinkled in), but I manage. However, when it comes right down to it, I have a healthy love of all things Boston, especially the Sox and the Bruins. It just comes with growing up here. So, to deviate from the normal hockey for a moment and just wish the Red Sox good luck - they're going to need it. Colorado is a nasty team right now, just ask Arizona.
Go Sox!

Gooooooooo Gagne!
And all of Sox Nation faints.
Wooo! Yay for Charter getting their asses in gear so you ladies can finally watch hockey! Jeez...you were in the stone age or something.
And oh my god, Elly, a team that we can both agree on! GO RED SOX! (Can someone who loves me text me score updates tonight? I'll be at the Caps-Bolts game...)
CC, I'll send you updates on the score as long as you cheer for Miiilaaaan for me :D (You know, because you wouldn't have done that otherwise...)
I'd offer to try to send you scores, but I will be working tonight at the bar, and I will be elbow-deep in baseball fans and have no time. :( Hope the game goes well!
Clearly this means I love you more than Elly :D I am MAKING time from my busy life of...not studying for midterms.
I'm going to be watching a hockey game and the baseball game all at once. Go me! I'll keep whoever wants to be updated up to date on any hockey game...
Even though Tracy yelled at me last time, me too Kirsten! (Except, you know, probably a totally different hockey game :P) Good luck beating up the Flames!
Good luck beating up whoever it is that you are supposed to be beating up tonight! I like watching multiple games at once, especially if one of them is baseball.
The Canucks :) Go Wings Go! I actually like watching multiple games better if it's more than one sport - it seems easier, maybe because I don't confuse scores and teams and whatnot as much (or maybe I just suck).
Okay I know I am late and off topic, but since you brought it up: MAF.
After watching Tuesday's game, I have been thinking a lot about MAF. I have been thinking about how I would not be able to sleep at night if he was my starting goalie. (I mean this in the nicest possible way, as someone whose team has had severe goalie issues.)
He obviously has some crazy talent, but just needs to work on the technical side of things. I hope he will continue to improve (except when he plays the Flyers) and develop into the star goalie he could be...
Kristin: Last year this time I must admit - I did have a few sleepless nights about Flower and his reliability. It took me a while to accept him into my heart, but once there, he's stayed. I have faith in him, and yes, I will readily admit that he really does need to shore up on his technique, but if he does...whoa, watch out. Of course, on the flip side, if he doesn't, and doesn't shake all those 'bad habits' he talks about, and doesn't improve his technique...well, I'd rather not think about it. He's young, he has time to really solidify his game, but that excuse only works for so long...then we shop. I don't want to, I'd like Fleury to stick around, and I believe that he has it in him (he showed it last season), but we'll see. I'm just happy to be able to hesitantly think that we have a reliable goaltender without wishing I had Tom Barrasso's number.
So...in that long winded reply, yes, I can see where you're coming from, and I hope that Fleury gets his technique better, and if he does, he's going to rock. :) Especially when we play the Flyers, mwhahaha! ;) I still can't believe it's over a month till we play! Who made this schedule, anyhow?
As much as I'm starting to love Saboo, I'd also like to see a rock standing behind MAF for those days he seems to have the Haseks... I'm still pulling for Bryz in a Pens sweater, because I'm confident in his starting ability for those non-Fleury moments, but also because he's a freakin' sofa, and if anyone can teach MAF how not to throw back those rebounds it'd be him.
I just really don't want MAF to go to the Bobby Luongo School of Emo Goaltending. Goalie technique wise, sure, but I don't think there's enough room in this league for ALL THAT SELF FLAGELLATION.
(Oh Bobby, I love you. Just... don't be such a drama queen?)
Teka I just want to let you know that every time you open your mouth and the words "Roberto Luongo" pop out I brace myself, because EVERY time it happens you are just too freaking funny.
I'm still waiting for the Penguins to hold a press conference introducing Curtis Joseph. I talked about that a month ago... and still no action.
Shero... you're killing me.
Teebz: Well, having a good backup goalie would make things too easy, don't you think? The Pens have to keep with their storied history of making the fans get at least 3 ulcers per season.
Ty Conklin: Three ulcers per minute and a half?
